Bizarre Victorian fact of the day…
When Victorian ladies received visitors into their homes they would greet them by holding out their right arm and extending a certain number of fingers - two for new acquaintances and three for family, friends and social superiors. Great offence and embarrassment could be caused if a lady showed the wrong number of fingers.
This is very, very strange. That said, I hope it’s true.
